Activator Methods

Mastering the Method – Part 2: Commentary by Dr. Arlan W. Fuhr

You might remember that I spoke about the importance of becoming a master in my last post. I gave the example of a glass cutter at the Waterford factory in Ireland and how it takes ten years and 10,000 hours of practice to become a master. I related that to the chiropractic profession and how we must invest tremendous energy and focus to become masters in our field.

While perusing my bookshelf recently, my eyes [...] Continue Reading…

Patient care through the years – by Dr. Jan Roberts, DC

Practicing chiropractic is one of the greatest thrills I have. I am honored to serve patients; helping them re-gain and maintain their health is both a challenge and a joy. Utilizing Activator Methods for over 30 years has allowed me to help thousands reach their goals of decreased pain and increased activity.

Recently, I was talking to a friend who is an MD practicing in my town. He was telling me how stressful it is [...] Continue Reading…

Mastering the Method – Part 1

In my recent travels, I’ve been engaging in dialogue with students, doctors and instructors, and a common question has emerged: Why is it important to continue training on a technique? The question has reminded me of a journey to Ireland that I took several years ago to teach at a seminar. During my visit, it was recommended that I tour the Waterford crystal factory, the center of the company’s worldwide operation.

The tour detailed each [...] Continue Reading…

Patience is the key to success – a commentary by Dr. Arlan Fuhr

I’ve often told the story of how I became a volunteer for the Neighborhood Christian Clinic, located in South Phoenix. It was seven years ago that I heard a medical doctor at our church do a presentation for the Neighborhood Christian Clinic. I went up to him after the presentation and asked him who was in charge of the chiropractic service at the clinic. He told me that they didn’t have chiropractic included in the [...] Continue Reading…

The power of electronics – a commentary by Dr. Fuhr

The advent of electronic communications has its benefits and its detractions.  At any given time, my cell phone is ringing while my computer is alerting me to new email while my Blackberry is buzzing and the fax machine is whirring – usually in the middle of a face-to-face meeting.  We’re expected to answer every call and open every email, and respond with equal efficiency.  The electronic age has made our lives overwhelming to a [...] Continue Reading…

Recent studies show effectiveness of Activator Method

Strong interexaminer reliability has historically been shown by Activator Methods leg length analysis, and active research continues on the clinical assessment performed by Activator Methods isolation analysis. Results from two recent studies conducted in university settings help to support the effectiveness of the Activator Method.

The first study (Roy, RA, et al, Effects of a manually assisted mechanical force on cutaneous temperature. JMPT 31(3):230-6) demonstrated a consistent cooling of 2.34°F on the side of subluxation [...] Continue Reading…

Is your information secure? Dr. Fuhr’s insights on protecting your records

I know many chiropractors who believe that because their offices are small, formal protection of files and information may be unnecessary.  But consider all the important records you must keep for your patients and your practice, even if you do not have a large staff. These files are critical to your business operation, especially if you face a Medicare or tax audit, or if your practice is compromised in some way due to a [...] Continue Reading…

The lessons of continuing education: A commentary by Dr. Fuhr

When I arrived in Arizona more than two decades ago, the state did not require continuing education for its chiropractors.  At the time, it was a very controversial subject between the two state associations, with one in favor of requiring continuing education, and the other opposed.  The issue became a hot topic at the Arizona State Legislature, and because of my political experience, I was quickly drafted to the legislative committee reviewing the issue.

As [...] Continue Reading…

The power of the Internet: A commentary by Dr. Arlan Fuhr

An editorial published a few years ago has always stayed on my mind. The column cited some examples of what traditional media is reporting about chiropractic. At the time, Forbes had recently indicated that chiropractic is not cost-effective, the Wall Street Journal had offered less-than-favorable comments, and US News & World Report questioned the effectiveness of chiropractic treatments.

Over the course of my 40-plus years in the profession, I have noted that traditional media is [...] Continue Reading…
